Nope you're not going mad. Was on around the same time period as Captain Caveman. Pretty much like Scooby Doo in its format, with the shape changing Shmoo taking the Scooby role.

I remember this cartoon. I remember watching an episode called The Ber Shmoo Da Triangle. It was exactly the same sort of stuff that went on in Scooby Doo.
The original Shmoo comes from way back and appeared in some cartoon from the 1940s. My mate told me this years ago when we were drunk and waiting for a bus.
