Damn. I was looking forward to going to that show next year.
Should had gone this year.

Cop a load of the "What a Let Down" thread on that forum. What a bunch of moaning whingers. Jesus.
I hope that thread isn't why the show has been cancelled. Just from reading that thread and seeing the discussions about what was on offer at CGE 2005 I feel I should have paid the show more attention. 25 arcade machines ffs. Wish I'd gone now.

Yo' crunch it was cool, got to meet mike and a load of other ppl off the forums - well I thought it was a good weekend

merman - November 4, 2005 09:38 AM (GMT)
Agreed koopa, it was a great weekend. There were one or two minor niggles, but Chris & Christine Millard did an AMAZING job after all the problems with changing dates and venue...

Shame there will be no 2006 show....

Hopefully what has happened has nothing too much to do with the response after the event, as although constructive feedback is always wanted (and a lot of people were constructive), some people's critisism was just way OTT over some issues.

Doing a show like CGE cannot be easy and the stress in organising it was huge I no doubt imagine.

Just hope that Chris & Chrstine decide to do the 2007 event, as they have an excellent show on their hands and I am sure it will continue to develop and grow..

The bad thing is with most things you only hear the negatives, you dont always hear the positives.

Its like when they show a program on TV and there were 300 complaints so they have to look into it. What about the other 3,9 million who didnt mind it at all ?

CGEUK was the first show i had gone to, a few people i had spoken to said it wasnt great and was like (how the other poster put it) a jumble sale. For me it was difficult as i had been to so many shows at Olympia i perhaps was expecting too much.

However meeting tons of retro people i have chatted to at the boards, chatting to quite a few people behind the stands who were friendly as anything i came away very happy with the event. Shame its been cancelled for this year

Perhaps when Retro Ball is a big success there might be another show in the summer with the new Retro Gamer getting behind it ? Matthew Smith pulling out at the last second probably didnt help last years show.

Even more reason now to snap up your tix for the retro ball.

psj3809 - November 4, 2005 10:47 AM (GMT)
Yep i have mine, hopefully many more will as well.

Just like CGEUK it'll be a great show but also its a good chance to meet a lot of people.

Quite often on the net things can be taken the wrong way but once you meet people in person it helps discussing retro stuff on the net.

Boyo has a good lineup of guests and speakers and it looks to be excellent. Looking forward to it a lot. Being in the centre of the UK is good as well, now that i'm an adopted northerner i must admit going down to CGEUK in London would be a lot more hassle.

Well, I see a big opportunity for a retro show next summer, somewhere in the middle of the country, with backing from various retro mags and sites...

Yep, I saw that too. And as far as I could tell you hadn't even been drinking.

If there's gonna be another event I'd like to see something like the Edge sponsored Game On exhibition which was really good.

I have been in preliminary talks with a veteran of the industry who belongs to a number of ' game development groups' in the UK in bringing a retro event to London next Summer.

This all depends on the success of The Retro Ball obviously.

When the music moves you, ya gotta go with it...

Going to see madfiddler this weekend in Copenhagen, yay!

Boyo, like I said up there, Midlands would be a good idea but interesting to hear you already thinking about another event...

Game on was fabberlous. I was so jealous when I saw all the bumf for the Olympia (iirc) and then was so delighted when I realised it was coming up to Edinburgh.

I didn't win Lara Croft though...

Its a shame as I really enjoyed having a stall at this years show (I was first table you came to as soon as you walked through the entrance and up the stairs)

Ive been stashing quite a bit of stuff away already in preperation for next years show including my best item ever: A 3ft high Statue of Lara Croft!!!

No idea what Im going to do with it now - its currently sitting in the corner of my front room for the last 4 months.

It's a shame about the CGE-UK 2006. Paul told me about this a few weeks ago, and suggested that he and I could organist the '06 event whilst Chris and Chris had a well-deserved year off. I have had some experience of organising such events myself (albeit on a much smaller scale), but I'm not sure that he tremendous amount of effort it will take to do it will be worth the moaning minnies that will enevitabely rear their ugly heads in some form or other. Plus there's always the fact that something will go wrong - guaranteed.

However, if any of you guys want to organise the event, I wouldn't mind advising and organising smaller parts of the event.

Regards,

Shaun.
