Title: Gamestation
Elgin_McQueen - December 4, 2005 05:35 AM (GMT)
Does anybody know if they test out the second hand bundles they sell beforehand? Wouldn't wanna go and buy a dreamcast or gamecube or something and find out when I get it home that it's a heap of sh!t that doesn't work.

Hiya,
On the couple of occasions I have bought second hand hardware from Gamestation they have always tested it out before completeing the sale, thats the Ellesmere Port branch anyway, don't know if this is company policy or just good practice.
Cheers !

They get a quick test when they buy it in. I've often seen the lads at my local GameStation giving 'new' stuff a quick blast to see that the systems boot, games work and pads aren't broken. No point in them buying a dud. They don't tend to do it when selling the stuff though, as it was tested when bought...

My local one (Plymouth) tests stuff and gives a 3 month guarantee on all preowned stuff.

I think I got a whole YEARS guarantee on the Dreamcast I bought from Gamestation in Camden. You can't really say fairer than that. Although the Virtua Tennis disc I bought with it was in a horrendous state. That certainly wasn't checked beforehand...

The VF2 Saturn disc I got was shagged so I took it back but they didnt have another so I got a refund. The Next time I went in they had one and they let me have it for nowt for the trouble. Now thats service!!

It's in the sale of goods act that a retailer provides a limited warranty on purchaces - of the stores in my area - Gamestation, Game and Eplay will refund or exchange any preowned console or game for at least 30 days.

K, thanks, prob have a good look and see what they have next time i'm up the high street. Mate of mine saw a cd-i in the window the other week, wish i'd been with him at the time
miner2049er - December 6, 2005 10:17 PM (GMT)
My local Gamestation give a full refund within 30days and credit note after that for faulty goods.
borstal - December 28, 2005 07:52 PM (GMT)
Some do, some dont.
Ive heard staff at my local Gamestation say that they can only refund in credit notes. Im sure thats not quite legal. You can get a refund for most things with the return being the same as the payment method

I add my weight to the tested when bought/traded. They fire it up before they hand over the lovely cash to make sure it works.
They usually give the discs a quick look-see as well, but not a test so sometimes they are too scratched to work. They take it back in my experience if it won't play.

If I remember Watchdog correctly, you are entitled to a full refund if something is faulty and they do not have a replacement.
Shops can only enforce refund by vouchers / credit notes if the item is OK but the customer simply does not want it (like a duplicated christmas present).

Gamesation are pretty good , but they do seem to help keep Retro prices high.
I have been retro collecting for much longer than Gameststions existance and a few years back you could get crap like the cd 32 for a couple of quid in the bargain bin gamestation have given it an artificial high value of £50 or so lol great if your selling the ones you bought for a fiver.
I appreciate that some games etc are very rare , but shagged boxes and generally tatty condition for £40 or more for old Snes games is a mickey take.
why is Snes Zelda worth so much they made billions of copies??
Panzer Dragoon saga = small fortune ? why its not that good
Ico - 3 years ago you'd get it in the game sale for about a fiver , now second hand its worth a bomb.
I'd still rather channel my coins into getting hundreds of classic 8 bit games for pennies off ebay than pay top dollar for a vectrex from Gamestation.
I bought Manic Miner , Jet set willy , Horace , Horace goes Ski'ing , Chuckie Egg
etc for 20p each in the charity shop in Wrexham only weeks ago.
always worth a trawl.

The price of retro stuff in Gamestation seems to vary alot from store to store. Some you can find real bargains (like I did recently, see my topic in Anything Else), others will try and sell game and watch games for £60 (my brothers Zelda g&w is probably still in the Wrexham branch, now reduced down to £30 or something :) )

:D Chatham, Kent had a Vic20, datacorder, software and joystick for a tenner. Not boxed but in lovely condition. Had me some of that. Still plastic wrapped and packed away for another day. I want to play with it.... I just can't bring myself to open it.
Ok, it'll never be a massive investment but it sure looks nice

I picked up mine from a charity shop with a C64 thrown in for a tenner a while back. I didn't really want the Vic, but I needed it for the PSU as its the same as the C64 one.

I always found Gamestation pretty high priced for retro stuff. I think they must monitor ebay regularly and notch the prices up a bit for the convenience factor (and for their own gain, of course). I saw a copy of Shining Force 2 on the Mega Drive for 40 quid for instance, and they would always have random SNES games for high prices. They were even selling some recent N64 games for about twice what you could probably find them for on ebay.

The thing is though, buying stuff you want from Gamestation = guaranteed sale.
Trying to buy stuff you want from Ebay = being sniper bidded at the last bloody second!!

It works both ways. I've made a tidy profit trading stuff in at GS on items they have overpriced. Over 100% profit sometimes. Best one was an Amstrad bundle I paid £8 for and sold to them for about £60. Charity shops have been a bit dry lately though.
Vern - January 17, 2006 09:31 AM (GMT)
Charity shops..... I can't beleive I've never thought of looking in charity shops. The word "TWAT" springs to mind.
I've got a large Oxfam in Rochester, great music section in there. I'm going rummaging at the weekend
Bring on that FM Towns Marty for £5! Wooooooooooooooooooo!
