Title: Cigarette Coupons
Description: only 3 million more to get a toaster?

My grandmother used to collect the tokens inside packets of Embassy cigarettes. She must had to have smoked about a million cigarettes in her lifetime poor woman as she had hundreds of these silly things.

You got 1 in a pack of 20 and a half in tens (or something like that).

If you ordered the catalogue you could get a lighter for about 300 tokens or something ludicrous like that.

The one I saw you could get a Mini Metro (or equivolent) if you collected about 12 million tokens.

Did anyone actually claim any of these prizes?

Ah! Yes, the good old Embassy cigarette coupon. My grandmother and several of my relatives worked for W.D & H.O Wills who made the cigarettes and each month they would get an allowance of cigarettes. My gran didn't smoke so sent the ciggies to my father who did so tokens would turn up that way plus as she also knew loads of other people who had worked for the company and would get their tokens from them. Thus each month would see about a 1000 points worth of tokens arriving at our house so yes, we did send off for a fair few things from the catalogue. I still feel a vague twinge of guilt when I think back to some of the toys I got, realising now that someone, somewhere probably smoked themselves to death to supply me with a packet of Airfix soldiers.
