Title: Retro Gifts
PINMAN - December 21, 2005 10:57 AM (GMT)
Hi guys.I was wondering if any of you folks, have ever bought your other half anything Retro related for Christmas / Birthday ? (doesn't have to have any connection with games). If so,what did you buy ?(and a pic too if possible). Here's what my other half is getting for Christmas(amongst many other things).

She know's about 'em.....as she was the one that chose them.

My missus is totally anti-retro, we dont really share the same hobbies etc which i dont mind actually. If she enjoyed retro stuff then she would probably want me to be into some of her hobbies most of which i find very boring so i dont mind at all !

About eight years ago I had the utterly unbelievable luck of finding an assortment of rare Sisters of Mercy merchandise in a record shop staffed by a bunch of muppets whose idea of decent music was the Spice Girls. One album that most knowledgeable dealers would have been flogging at £100 plus was priced at £3.99. Mrs Von is a massive Sisters fan so that year for her birthday she got a stack of 80s Sisters vinyl.
Last Christmas she reciprocated by getting hold of a load of Spectrum games compilations I didn't have in my collection.

I went further than that and got my missus Crazy Taxi 3 for the Xbox because she used to really like the first one on the DC but didn't get on with Crazy Taxi 2 so much. Turned out that Crazy Taxi 3 was even worse though :(
Also bought my missus Rayman DS (along with a DS and Zoo Keeper) for her birthday earlier in the year because Rayman 2 is her favourite ever game and it's pretty much just a remake of it....slightly dodgy controls aside, she seems impressed with it.
BTW Those Pacman keyrings in the photo are amongst the coolest things I've ever seen in my life B) , where's you get 'em from, I can't make out that website name properly (looks like 'fuzzcrat.co.uk' to me).

That's the trouble these day's...ya can't test stuff out before purchasing anything.I remember back in the 80's,you'd often come across computer/console shops, where you were actually able to test out software, before parting with your hard earned cash.During that era, many places has systems set up for this purpose.

Even though my other half is quite keen on this kinda stuff too,i wouldn't be at all bothered,if she weren't(like yourself). It's nice to share some interests, but ya don't want to be too alike,do you ? :D .There are a few things, which does appeal to the pair of us,but we do also have our own things, which the other could never get into too.

Zoo Keeper is an excellent game IMO.Talking about Zoo Keeper,i've got a great Flash version of this particular game. It's normally only an online game, but i obtained a .swf of it,and created an exe out of the game. You can now easily play this offline,by just double clicking on the file.
If i knew that the staff around here would be okay with it,i'd make it available for download, for anyone interested.

As pointed out by koopa42....these are actually Earrings, not Keyrings.I could provide the website still, should ya want to obtain 'em for your other half :) .

This is a URL for the original Zookeeper:
http://jp.shockwave.com/games/puzzle/actio...eeper/play.htmlAs far as retro happenings over this Xmas have gone, I got the 5-in-1 Jakk's Pacific with Pacman etc. from my brother, and I've been playing a lot of stuff on my Saturn, such as Last Bronx, Guardian Heroes and Burning Rangers. I also fired up one of my C64s and mirthed at the 500 years it took to load Kane and a few other games, before continuing forth onto a newly acquired copy of Superior's re-release of Repton 3 for the PC, which I do highly recommend.
