Title: V: The Mini Series
Description: Starting tonight!

I loved this when it was on in the 80's, so I'm looking forward to seeing it again. It starts in 15 minutes on the SF channel.
Not much notice, but I thought some people might want to know. It's repeated a few times if you miss it.

used to scare me to death !!!
That tubey-thing device what they put you in and where they found out what you were scared of .... oooh - *RS200 hides behind cushions ... oh thanks ! .. now I cannot get that giant Iguana out of my mind shouting "Julie, Julie" !!

I can't believe what I've just done! The picture jumped twice in the last 5 minutes, so I unplugged the NTL box to re-set it, hoping for a better "un-jumpy" re-connected signal. Now the box is stuck on the "updating your service" picture
I'm going to have to watch the repeat myself now.
Bollocks.

V was the nuts. I recently watched the miniseries and the full series in a few days. Still good viewing right through until the end. Highly recommended for anyone who never saw it*.

*unless you like hamsters, gerbils and other small, furry, cute and edible rodents.

Well, I rang NTL at about 10:30, and by 14:30 I had a nice new Samsung STB (my old one was a big ugly Pace one) :D
So, I'm ready for the repeat tomorrow. The only problem is that the repeat is on from 16:10 - 18:10. They might cut it  There is another repeat at midnight on Wednesday (Tuesday night/Wed morning). I don't know if I should wait for that one.
Is there anything in episode 1 that might be cut, when shown in the afternoon?
brucepingsteen - February 11, 2006 11:11 PM (GMT)
I too loved this when it was first shown.
Remember the alien who sided with the humans, Mr Freddie Krugger himself.
He was probably the only one who did anything worthwhile afterward.
Marc Singer in Beastmaster dosnt count lol.
I remember Michael Ironside i think he was in V2?

Nec - the rodent eating scenes were cut originally when shown earlier in the day, I expect the same now.

Got Sky installed yesterday - switched it on to "test" it and there's V just starting!! Cue HUGE smile and I sat down to watch the bugger. LOVED that show in the 80s. Still stands up today. Aaaaaahhh Sci-Fi channel is goood.

Don't forget part 2 on friday night :D

The afternoon repeat did have the rodent eating bit in it, so maybe they didn't cut anything.

V is fantastic. There were a few decent books as well. One a novelisation of the series, the other the same story but told from the point of view of an East Coast resistance group. Interesting.
Then there was a rather soapy series based on Diana realising that the red dust would disappear in time, hiding for a bit and then coming back for another shot to try and restore her honour.
V is wonderful. One of the most unsettling and convincing invasion dramas ever. Probably the benchmark.

Did anyone else who watched episode two, notice the C64 tape being played right at the end (the actual data, not music)? :D

Yep , I read the novelisation of V: The Mini Series and then followed it up with the Diana book (Revenge of Diana or something?!) and East Coast Crisis (with the purple cover). To be honest, none of these "spin-off" novels lost any quality, they were equally as good, if not better than, the original story. Really loved V as a kid and I'm really enjoying the re-runs on Sky. Even the SFX look great given their age and even compared to some ropey CGI you get these days!
EDIT:
Okay, well apparently there were 15 V novels, I thought there were only 4 (the original plus 3 more) but here's the full list in case anyone's interested:
1 V: East Coast Crisis
2 V: The Pursuit of Diana
3 V: The Chicago Conversion
4 V: The Florida Project
5 V: Prisoners and Pawns
6 V: The Alien Swordmaster
7 V: The Crivit Experiment
8 V: The New England Resistance
9 V: Death Tide
10 V: The Texas Run
11 V: Path to Conquest
12 V: To Conquer the Throne
13 V: The Oregon Invasion
14 V: Below the Threshold
15 V: Symphony of Terror
I remember reading books 1-3 plus the original novelisation of V: The Mini Series. I remember them being really good - if anyone's read any of the others could you recommend (or not) them?

Am I right in thinking that was the series with the weird thing in the sand that used to eat people in a tremors stylee?

Nope, that was Dune, based on the Frank Herbert books. The Sci-Fi Channel did a mini-series of that a couple of years ago, or there was the 1980's David Lynch film...

hmmmm
not that I am doubting your wisdom but am absolutely sure in V in the aliens' "grounds/home/base" they had a sandpit which you used to get thrown on and then eaten from below without seeing the monster. hhmmmmm gonna go get a pic from the t'internet.
