Slap - March 21, 2006 09:32 PM (GMT)
I am selling a Sinclair ZX81 computer, with leads, power supply, manual and polystyrene case. The keyboard does not work.

I'll give you ten pence for it. Its not worth a whole lot more in that condition as they're common as muck.

If you search on completed items on eBay you will see that ZX81's untested and incomplete have sold for a lot more than 10p.

That may well be the case, but with a borked keyboard you won't be loading much and you'll be programming less. A guaranteed ZX81 doorstop=10p value. A 'maybe working' one will get a more optimistic price but even boxed tested ones only cost a few pounds...

Slap, I'm curious about your auction. You say there's a well known fix for the keyboard. Do you have any more information? If you do a link on the auction would probably help make it more attractive.
If not it's certainly possible someone will buy it for parts. There's got to be some need for 20+ year old micro bits.

I have seen replacement keyboards for sale on eBay also I understand that sometimes the cable connector just needs to be refitted. I would not know what to do myself but I bet people on "world of spectrum" or one of the other forums would know.
Thanks.

Very good I'd say. I really didn't think it'd break the mgic £10 mark. Someone no doubt really wants a box for their working ZX81.
Wonder how much the individual bits would've gone for? I bet the box would have sold for the most.
