That is SO seventies...

80's makes me think Adam Ant, New Romantic, Spectrum v C64, Vector games, real arcades, leaving school, finding alcohol and women, first kisses (and more)...

Bizzarely, my gran's brown carpet.

All of my formative experiences, TV, video games, toys, comics, VHS... happened on that carpet.

Whenever I remember anything from then it involves that carpet. Oh, and once I put my head on the carpet and ran round and round for a bit (I was still short), the carpet burn was still there the next day at school.

Perhaps that explains why it's imprinted on my mind...

Is this the same Gary Mabbut that was the rock for Tottenham Hotspur Football Club centre back who played over 700 league games for spurs even though he had diabetes?

Legend.

I use to watch him play at the Lane when I was a kid. Good call Koops.

I read that and I think it made me temporarily dyslexic - it was like reading white noise, just a wash of meaningless sound...

Leave me alone, I can't construct a clear sentence on a good day, let alone when I'm on crack.

It was almost making sense until I read the 'F' word...

It wasn't no, plain brown.

Anyway, I left off another of my formative carpet experiences.

My gran's best friend used to look after me and the only "toys" she had were some wooden blocks and a wooden train (I think). Anyway, her carpet was one of those with the patterns in the boxes. Hard to describe. Anyway, I used the light bits round the boxes to drive my train. Really fast. I probably got a carpet burn here as well.

I need to try again on the carpet. It was brown and kind of paisley pattern. Divided into squares by light brown outlines.

Know the one I mean?

Similar to this but the squares were smaller, unless I get burned for hotlinking...
