Title: Revolution, what's it going to be called?

Jumpman - April 5, 2006 05:20 PM (GMT)
Any ideas what Nintendo might call it's publicity fiend? (It's getting more hype than the PS3 for sure)

koopa42 - April 5, 2006 05:32 PM (GMT)
The N-igma

The NV

I dunno lol

Antiriad2097 - April 5, 2006 05:53 PM (GMT)
Revolution?

Seems daft to change it now. It worked out ok for the X-Box and even now you'll hear people reference the PSX instead of PS1.

Sureshot - April 5, 2006 06:00 PM (GMT)
I thought I read somewhere that they were keeping the name.

Jumpman - April 5, 2006 06:06 PM (GMT)
It would be the right name, but there's no Ultra64 or Dolphin is there?

Neither is there a Panther, but there is a Jaguar. Hmm... curious.

Actually, Famicom would suit it well in this country. Nintendo Family Computer. Has that fun for all the family feeling...

Famicom Revolution?

Mr. Pointless - April 5, 2006 10:17 PM (GMT)
Meh.

It's bound to change to something crap, and all that will remain of the original name will be on a model number (REV-001, anyone?)

merman - April 5, 2006 11:01 PM (GMT)
Nintendo's PR is still talking about it as the Revolution, but that remains just a codename...

The "Nintendo Go" was one suggestion that was floating around the rumour/news sites recently (Go being Japanese for five, since this is Nintendo's fifth "home" console - NES, SNES, N64, GC, Go)

Antiriad2097 - April 6, 2006 05:22 AM (GMT)
'Go' is the name that was attached to the Rev's front end/network service for downloading old games

koopa42 - April 6, 2006 11:36 AM (GMT)
Go? Oh No :D they HAVE to come up with something better

zerohour - April 6, 2006 01:31 PM (GMT)
Although I would like to see the Revolution go far....

The Nintendo no hope would probably be more accurate

Blimmin MS fanbuoys.

koopa42 - April 6, 2006 03:48 PM (GMT)
you seriously think 'go' is OK? now whos the fanboy? they could call it 'nintendo's ill advised already dead cutsie puke fest gamecube with a bigger memory card slot' and you'd like it

Win you up????

anyway - I was only pointing out that 'go' sounds a bit naff and anyone who thinks it doesn't is lying. If Nintendo are serious about getting this console off the ground surely a better name then 'go' would help IMO that is all. If you lot want to worship this console no matter what fair enough but that name sucks.

They should settle on something with N in I think, some clever play on it either that or the SUNES - super ultra nintendo entertainment system

Antiriad2097 - April 6, 2006 04:12 PM (GMT)
No, I think the console should be called Revolution.

I just don't think 'Go' is any worse than 'Live' for the online service. There are no doubt better names, but its far from the worst.

I'm not particularly a Ninty fanboy either - I don't like Zelda, I'm none too keen on Mario (especially of late) and my SNES was the only system I've ever sold. I've never liked N64 but I do own a Cube as I wanted Monkey Ball & Pikmin.

Of the 3 'next gen' systems, I can't say I've a particular favourite - its more a case of 'wait and see the games' tbh.

This console won't kill Nintendo, it'll be another slow burner that sells steadily for years to come. I can't see them retaking the top sales spot, but equally I think they know the business too well to be killed off. Sega made many years of bad decisions before it all caught up with them, as did many previous companies (Atari, Commodore etc).

They deffo need a catchy name - for shallow people like me :P if it sounds good you've got more chance of flogging it to me (or they could just release an SFII edition with pretty SFII pics on)

Well yeah, but its not going to be the name of the online service that catches your eye, is it?

You're browsing for a machine to play games on - you see '360' and 'Revolution', which of those sounds better? I'd go with the Rev myself. Once that's got your attention, you'll start reading that you can 'Go' anywhere in the world to compete against other players online...

The whole Revolution, globe, Go thing can have some nifty marketing spin put on it. Just needs some wordsmiths.

360 always makes me think 'thats what puts you back where you started' - 360 degrees = no movement at all ;)

Magic Knight - April 7, 2006 01:05 AM (GMT)
Revolution would be an apt name. Could run with the slogan, new machine same old spin offs. :P

Jumpman - April 7, 2006 07:21 PM (GMT)
They could call it Nintendo Smell Factory and it'd be in front of my telly faster than any other console to date.

I might even pay full price. I always wait for price reductions...
