Title: Nintendo Advertisements
Elgin_McQueen - April 8, 2006 11:22 PM (GMT)
Anyone seen the ad for that new DS game yet, the medical one? If Nintendo really want to waste their money creating shitty adverts for their games give me a call, i've no experence but will do it better and at half the price!!!!

lol You mean Trauma Centre: Under The Knife? All their DS game ads have been terrible so far, the ones for Meteos and Mario Kart DS are just plain embarrassing, which is a shame considering that the games themselves are great.

A ad should show the game in action.

I totally agree

All I've seen are the mini-ads before Green Wing with "the healing touch". I think they're alright and at least show some clips of the game. What are the actual TV ads like?

I saw a Ghost Recon advert the other night and it said something like "Not actual game footage", which I took as meaning "The game looks like crap, so we had to render this as we are embarrased to show the real game". I've never seen GR, but now I expect it to be rubbish after seeing the advert. Before I saw it, I thought it was supposed to be quite good.

nothing to help their products, which in reality are pretty
good.Or is that just me?cheers peter.

It's on just about every advert now - especially since Sony (I think it was them) were recently done for using misleading advertising after complaints about the rendered adverts being nothing like the actual games.
With the case of Ghost Recon : Advanced Warfighter, it's excellent on the Xbox360 ... why they had to use other rendered crap in the advert is beyond me. (I've no idea what the normal Xbox version looks like though!) The 360 engine used in the game has probably been the only 3D engine that has impressed me with it's quality since the days of Quake3!
(On the otherhand, there's still plenty of pap out there on the 360 - the demo of Battlefront 2 was utter dire - reminded me of blocky square quake2!)

First time I saw it, I thought: "What's with those stupid black outlines round the characters?" I'm not going to deny it looks pretty... but that just seems odd to me.

It was Activision, for the CoD2 advert.

That's weird, I could've sworn that when I replied to realretro's post last night it was the only reply i'd had to my topic, onlt finally seeing Toxie's post now.

:ph43r: Spooky!!
Anyway, back to the subject of Nintendo's recent poor advertisments for DS games, they seem to have gotten so into this 'trying to appeal to the non-gamer' way of thinking, that the ads have become patronizing at best.
Can't wait to see the ads when Metroid Prime Hunters gets released in the UK. I hope I'm wroing, but judging by what the Mario Kart DS ads have been like, they might end up saying something like 'If you like shooting people with a big gun, then you will like Metroid', and 'If you hate people who live in other countries, you will enjoy hurling abuse at them with Metroid's voice chat function'....d'oh!!!!
I hope I haven't given their marketing team any ideas......
