Of course not. The same thing nearly happened in here in Oxford when Rover went down the swanee. In the end they kept it open albeit with a vastly reduced workforce. I know a lot of people that were put out of work when they collapsed. I think its funny that the local council are proposing re-employing the workers for this planned casino. Its fairly symptomatic of corporate businesses these days. They just opened a big fuckoff plant in the Czech Republic (I think). The whole situation stinks and is happening everywhere. Take the production to a cheap labour haven and bollocks to the workers. :angry:

Yup. I know a bloke who had worked at the Rover Plant for 30 odd years each (since he was 21). He was unceremoniously booted out when the Japanese took over. That job was all he knew and considered himself too old to train for anything else. He now works in my local Tescos collecting trolleys. Takes the fuckin' piss. :angry: :angry: :angry: :angry:

It's ridiculous, very soon the only jobs you'll be able to get in this country will be IT or call centre staff positions for financial companies. We used to rule the world in manufacturing.

not even that - worse case scenario all the IT and call centres are off to india etc :(

I'm in IT (I support Mainframe applications), and half our jobs went to Spain and the other half are on their way to India. :angry: They are currently 45 people in one team, doing what about 5 people over here did.
