Title: Your favourite mag 'GONE'

Thought this was quite apt considering the recent issues.

I was just wondering which publication you have missed since their removal from the shelves.

Obviously I was sorry about RG.

Whereas I stopped buying C&VG due to other interests, it's probably ZZap64.

1985 - when Sunshine Publication's "Micro Adventurer Magazine" bit the dust. A great mag that lasted about 18 issues I think (ooh - coincidence!). I still have them all at home.

i'd go with zzap64 too ,

big sniffs all round

I can remember being quite upset when Arcade & Total Control bit the dust.

RS200 - August 26, 2005 10:31 AM (GMT)
Zzap64 for me too .. that magazine is legendry and i still read them today with just as much enthusiasm as i did when i was 13 or 14 ... though when "Amiga Power" stopped i felt like my life had no meaning anymore. I remember reading it with my gf crying with laughter with some of Stuart Campbell's reviews and contributions.

Ross .....

markopoloman - August 26, 2005 03:31 PM (GMT)
Yep - Zzap64! for me also :(

Mike - August 26, 2005 03:43 PM (GMT)
Was quite sad when 'Barely Legal' got cancelled. And for legal reasons too. :(

Kaptain_von - August 26, 2005 03:47 PM (GMT)
The demise of both Crash and Zzap64 left a bit of a void in my life and I can remember feeling distinctly upset when 16/48 failed to turn up on the shelves of WH Smiths. One that I was sad to see go but not gutted about was ZX Computing.

On a non-computer mag front I was gutted when they took 'Action' comic off the shelves as to a ten year old it was the best thing since sliced bread.

Swainy - August 26, 2005 03:57 PM (GMT)
Probably YS for the humour and Crash for the reviews... Even though they got a bit crap towards the end.

I'd love to see a magazine use the Crash/Zzap!64 review style these days, 3 opinions.

I missed Oric Owner terribly when it disappeared. There weren't exactly an abundance of news sources for Oric stuff as it was, just the odd mention in generic mags.

Still wouldn't mind tracking down a full set of those. I was missing a couple of issues and now I can't find any of them at all :(

And I couldn't afford the Ed's stack of stuff that he recently ebayed either. I felt like I was being taunted with that one.

deKay - August 26, 2005 05:02 PM (GMT)
Your Sinclair :(

Also Amiga Format and Games-X. I liked them.

Strider - August 26, 2005 06:26 PM (GMT)
Mean Machines was amazing until it split up into Mean Machines Sega and Official Nintendo Magazine. I was also a huge fan of arcade.

Both mags meant a lot to me and I try and capture the spirit of both of them in gamesTM.

Mintfresh - August 26, 2005 07:28 PM (GMT)
Amiga Format and all the Amiga mags in general. I was a big Amiga fan, and it was sad to see the end of an era.

The thing for me was I didn't even realise at the time that it had ended, because I went to college and got a PC and kinda forgot about the Amiga and the mags for a while, next thing I realise that its all ended, I then had to come to terms with the fact that the Amiga wasn't going to reclaim its former glory! :(

The thing with RG dieing, its not like all the other mags, because all the systems it covered were long gone anyway! With stuff like the Speccy and Amiga mags dieing, you knew that it was because your fav machine was on its last legs!

Anyone remember Big K? Bought one issue which turned out to be the last....

kennyrh - August 26, 2005 08:03 PM (GMT)
I miss 'em all . . .going back to crash and Zzap.

In fact I miss 'em so much that i kept most of them. Cupboards full of old computer and console mags that i promise myself I'll read again one day.

Anybody else . . .or am I the only sad git here . . . <_<

CdrJameson - August 26, 2005 08:13 PM (GMT)
Your 64, oddly.

I was a subscriber, and got something dreadful instead. So bad I can't even remember what.

Most other mags faded gradually away, or at least died properly with a bang (Amiga Power). RG is painful because it seems to have been cut off in its prime due to problems with other titles at the same publisher.

I got loads of mags back at my parents house, I will one day get them and put em in a nice room in my house. Mostly Amiga mags, Cu Amiga + Amiga Format. Don't know what happend to my Your Sinclairs though.

Serious Ham - August 26, 2005 08:28 PM (GMT)
The One Amiga. That was a great mag, with lots of cool stuff in it and great coverdisks. There were no Amiga gaming mags that could compare, so after The One I had to buy CU Amiga and Amiga Format, that were often mostly filled with serious articles. Still, I enjoyed those too, while it lasted. The last Amiga mag was AmigActive, which was very enjoyable in the start, but got a bit dull towards the end, with very little gaming coverage (as there really wasn't much to cover, I guess). When it finally disappeared, I was for the first time in years without a magazine to buy each month (or subscribe to). Then I bought PC Gamer and PC Zone occationally (though stopped buying Zone as the games I liked never got proper reviews there). And then Retro Gamer came along... sigh.

Hi All, I have to say I miss PCX, The only decent modding mag around. Oh well maybe someone will start another one one day :D

Officer Dibble - August 26, 2005 09:03 PM (GMT)
I miss LM Magazine & the arty photos of a naked lady lounging on a tree... :ph43r:

Donnanut - August 26, 2005 09:18 PM (GMT)
Hi Officder Dibble, Not sure if we should be worried about that one

Officer Dibble - August 26, 2005 09:21 PM (GMT)
It's looking at those pictures that made me the man* that I am today. Hehe.

*Draw your own conclusions.

Donnanut - August 26, 2005 10:36 PM (GMT)

Razzle.....oh...wait.....you mean COMPUTER mag???

Zzap 64 withoot a doobt

Vic26 - August 27, 2005 11:01 AM (GMT)
Pc Leisure - one of the early pc games magazines that just dispearred, and Byte.

Crunchy - August 27, 2005 11:02 AM (GMT)
For me it wasn't a magazine.

I was 37th in the fantasy football league and in with a chance at some serious prize money when the Today newspaper bit the dust.

I was gutted. Only 3 points behind the leader and the damn paper ceases to exist. :(

LeeT - August 27, 2005 11:29 AM (GMT)
For me its always the mags that suddenly disappear (like RG, of course!) - Whilst ZZAP!64 was my fave computer mag, by the time it finished, it meant very little to me, as I had got bored of gaming in the early 1990's and just bought Commodore Force (the new name for ZZAP!) out of habit. By the time it finished, it had covered just about everything that it could.

I do wish that LM had continued - It was ahead of its time and had several interesting articles.

zerohour - August 27, 2005 11:29 AM (GMT)
Must admit the list goes thus:-

YS
Crash
Ace
Byte

Used to really like reading Jerry Pournelle's column in Byte (Probably means I am rather sad) :)

kennyrh - August 27, 2005 01:02 PM (GMT)
The only current mag I REALLY enjoy is GamesTM . . .might be something to do with the excellent retro section. The rest of the mag is pretty well balanced though.

Whatever happened to PC gaming and, by extension, it's mags I have no idea. PC gaming now just seems to be for the online crowd and rich buggers who can keep their rigs up to scratch. I bought PC Gamer religiously but recently packed it in because £5.99 is a bit rich for a few demos and a basically tedious mag.

To be honest, I only get PSW for the free DVD . . .not too bad for £4 I suppose.

What's the best X-Box mag, by the way . . .??

I buy XBM which is pretty good (if a bit on the thin side!) - It even contains the odd review from Darran 'Strider' Jones!

I'm sure many other people owned an ST - but are afraid to say so! The thought of Amiga owners making them quake in there boots :D ......just kidding!

I still have an STFM and an STE, they were in regular use as my main computers until around 98 or 99.

Never really rated STF, but it was as good as it got.

David Faltskog - August 27, 2005 02:40 PM (GMT)
Amigas!, pfft...Bags of wind them, ST roolz's.

D.F. <_< running for his life.

rossi46 - August 27, 2005 11:22 PM (GMT)
I miss ST format, though it was little more than a pamphlet at the end.

More recently I mourned the demise of Saturn Power (ex Sega Power) and Dreamcast Magazine.

sparky - August 29, 2005 07:28 AM (GMT)
I know 'INPUT' was really set to be a certain amount of issues, but I loved it. I had my speccy at the time and loved keying in the program tasks.

It was an informative publication and gave me hours of fun. I still have my original complete collection, but never got the binders as I always feel these damage the magazines (inserting) more than protect them.
