Title: The Best and the Worst
miner2049er - September 30, 2005 10:29 PM (GMT)
What was the best and the worst game you bought for the same price?
Mine were from the Commodore 64 Mastertronic £1.99 range.
Best was 1985 (jupiter lander style exploration)
Worst was Sub Hunt (bloody awful shmup where the giant fish were twice the size of your submarine, and it had the worst soundtrack you ever heard).
RS200 - September 30, 2005 11:13 PM (GMT)
great thread !
best: Scout - C64 (Mastertronic)
Rates as one of my favourite games ever - just love the design, learning curve and playability - got it just right ...
worst: Hard Drivin' - C64 (Hit Squad)
worthless spectrum port which runs at the pace of a dead dog ... worthless tat .. i just pity the people who bought this at full price .. i would of cried if i had.

Best : Knight Tyme (Spectrum) - Actually bought on day of release. Thoroughly enjoyed it completed umpteen numbers of times and still replay it.
Worst: Crystal Kingdom Dizzy (Spectrum) - I can't believe I paid ten quid for this pile of cr*p unbellieveable.

Assuming £1.99:
BEST: Probably Kikstart. Or I really enjoyed Bump Set Spike, beach volleyball, mainly for Hubbard's outstanding music
WORST: Bionic Granny or Jungle Story, terrible
koopa42 - October 1, 2005 08:49 PM (GMT)
best: street fighter II - snes
worst: frontier - amiga
rossi46 - October 1, 2005 09:19 PM (GMT)
I bought two Megadrive games in Toys'r'us on the same day. Strider and Gunship.
Strider = the mutt's
Gunship = dog turd.
markopoloman - October 2, 2005 02:19 AM (GMT)
Best budget £1.99
One Man And His Droid - C64
Worst Budget
Booty - C64 (Hated that bloody game)!
ToxieDogg - October 2, 2005 05:38 PM (GMT)
I bought 2 opposite end of the scale SNES games on the same day once...
Zombies (aka Zombies Ate My Neighbours).....Quality!
Captain America And The Avengers....Complete and utter garbage, one of the only games I've ever gotten rid of. The Mega Drive version was much better.

Hi Toxie

The best and worst games that I bought for the same price were from the "Amsoft" Range. Both were from a car boot sale and some dude was getting rid a LOAD of Amsoft Titles. Both these games now stand in position as the best and worst titles.
Best Title: Roland On The Ropes :D
Worst Title: Roland In The Caves - Far too frustrating at times.

From the M.A.D range:
Best - Hero Of Golden Talisman - kind of like a cross between Impossible Mission and Indiana Jones, this is a sprawling arcade adventure that involves running, jumping, climbing and swimming. I defy anyone to complete this without cheating! Excellent.
Worst - Last V8 - One of the launch titles of this range and so frustratingly impossible. Nice idea in principle but falls at every hurdle. Give it a miss!

Back in my SNES days...
I paid £30 each for...
Super Mario Kart... WOO HOO!
&
Space Ace... BOO HOO!
I used to LOVE Space Ace on the Amiga but they took a game with little gameplay (an acquired taste) and turned it into a game with ZERO gameplay on the SNES
Believe you me I avoided the SNES version of Dragon's Lair after playing the pile of poo that is Space Ace on the SNES!
Robbo.

I can't be sure they were exactly the same price, fairly sure they were both about £15 - but how about:
Best - Elite
Worst - The Great Space Race
Both Spectrum.

I remember the Great Space Race I saw had no writing or markings on the box, and I handed over my money, but only realised when he put the cassettes in the box that I'd bought a Speccy game for my C64.
The miserable b$%tard was well pleased when he had to refund me.
