Title: What I am taking to retro ball
Description: Let me know what you think

Mike - October 17, 2005 11:22 AM (GMT)
This is what I'm bringing to Retro Ball. I don't own a retro shop or anything, it's all my own personal stuff. :)

2 smallish Tv's that can be turned sideways. ;)

1xGamecube
1xJAP Saturn
1xPS2
1xMegadrive
1xSNES
1xDreamcast

Ikaruga (GC)
Radiant Silvergun (Saturn)
Layer Section (Saturn)
Shikigami No Shiro 2 (GC)
Gunbird 2 (DC)
R-Type Delta (PSone/2)
Gradius V (PS2)
Thunderforce IV (Megadrive)
U.N Squadron (SNES)
Super R-Type (SNES)
Bangai-O (DC)

Although some of the games may be perceived as modern they are all obviously retro in style and in the case of Gradius V, Ikaruga, R-Type contain the obvious retro link.

I will have to say good. That's a fine collection you have there. :)

boyo - October 17, 2005 11:36 AM (GMT)
The area Mike is contributing to, as if you have not guessed, is the Shoot Em Zone.

I will add some stuff from my collection, this being:

MAME Bartop with 28" monitor, as seen in CGEUK
Amiga 600 running the likes of Xenon 2 etc
Playstation One (titles tbd)
Megadrive (titles tbd)
NES (titles tbd)
Vectrex (titels tbd)

:D

Excellent we can run R-Type Delta on the PSone!!

I will be getting some more MD games too shortly, will keep you posted.

koopa42 - October 17, 2005 11:43 AM (GMT)
i finally got one of those DC to monitor thingies too ;)

Antiriad2097 - October 17, 2005 03:46 PM (GMT)
You've got to get Scramble if you've got a Vectrex there. Minestorm II is good for that Asteroids vibe as well.

I'd be tempted to take Border Down for the DC as well. I really ought to rummage through my DC collection to see what else I have thats worth a look. At a guess I'd say Rez should be there, particularly if you have a projector and a loud sound system :)

No Jaguar's for Tempest 2K either :(

Unfortunately when this project started out it was a bit smaller scale and I said I'd bring what I could. Unfortunately I don't have a Jag or Rez or Border Down. If anyone could or would like to bring some stuff and help out that would be cool. (I would LOVE to have a go on Border Down)

We will be able to play Te,pest on the MAME cab, we'll change the game throughout the day! ;)

koopa42 - October 17, 2005 03:52 PM (GMT)
i could look into getting a vectrex emu on my xbox I guess

Koops I think Chris wants to keep to original hardware wherever possible. Mame being the exception because we can still use it in the cabs and give people attending the feel of playing an arcade cab.

Antiriad2097 - October 17, 2005 04:42 PM (GMT)
Koops, Vectrex emulation is poo, it has to be the real thing.

Mike, I could sort you out with Rez & Border Down. I have a scary big DC collection :D

boyo - October 17, 2005 04:43 PM (GMT)
I am bringing my Vectrex for the Shoot Em Zone chaps - and I have Scramble and Beserk for ppl to play :D

NO EMULATORS apart from MAME ;)

Crunchy - October 17, 2005 05:38 PM (GMT)
I can bring DC Rez. I don't have Border Down though, sorry.

Antiriad2097 - October 17, 2005 05:44 PM (GMT)
I have a jen-yoo-wine import original of Border Down. Oddly, it worked out cheaper to buy it via Spain to import to the UK. Weird. Anyhoo, as I do own a legit version of this, I'm open to loaning to the ball as I can't make it there myself. Boyo, are backups okay for the ball? Seems safer than risking losing original disc and it is now legal to backup software in the UK.

rossi46 - October 17, 2005 07:38 PM (GMT)
Are we all to bring something? What can I bring, guys? What do you still need? (I must say, I'm looking forward to the ball :P )

boyo - October 17, 2005 08:36 PM (GMT)
Bought Super Turrican for the NES today - will that be OK for the Shoot Em Up Zone?

Also bought Power Blade for the NES and Strider for the Megadrive - all 3 for £5 from Gamestation.

Also bought Nights into Dreams and Saturn Bomberman for the Saturn both for £9.99

It would be REAL cool if you guys would/could bring an item to be played at the event :D

Also - who would be able to bring a 20" or larger TV with them to the event? I want everything to be big at The Retro Ball and it would be real cool to swap out some of the 14" TV's we have with larger ones?

merman - October 18, 2005 02:39 PM (GMT)
I can bring some C64 cartridges along if you like.

Antiriad2097 - October 18, 2005 04:25 PM (GMT)
I have a 'spare' 20" TV just now if anyone wanted to pick it up. Planning to use it for some of my consoles later (i.e. possibly never) but at the mo' its sitting idle at the top of my stairs since the weekend.

dk19 - October 20, 2005 12:54 PM (GMT)
I have a Neo Geo CD that I would be willing to bring. I have most of the KOF games as well but was thinking it might be good for the shoot em up zone as I have 'viewpoint'. Is that an acceppted classic or not? I think it's pretty cool but then again I haven't played loads of shooters.

Only thing is that I have 1 NG pad but have a converter so you can use a PS2 pad.

OMG DK that would be class!

Viewpoint is great but incredibly tough, and frankly I think the shmuppet zone needs all the help it can get. :(

+ get to go ona Neo CD!

It think Console Passion are bringing an MVS with them with tons of fighters, so not much point in bringing the fighting games I reckon.

dk19 - October 20, 2005 02:29 PM (GMT)
ok, i will bring it.

I am glad you say it is supposed to be tough as I am shi* at it. I hope to see everyone else struggle as well :D

koopa42 - October 20, 2005 02:30 PM (GMT)
yo' DK wanna hang about the shmup zone then? more the merrier ;) we're also by the bar (of course)

Aberdeen, hence my non-attendance at the event. Allegedly some of the other board members come within spitting distance of here through work though...

DonkeySpank - October 21, 2005 09:24 AM (GMT)
Is anyone bringing an Atari 2600/VCS? I've got a 6-switch woody with about 30 carts if you're interested, all pretty much "classics" ;) eg. All Star Wars carts, Pacman, ET, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Space Invaders, Defender, Asteroids, etc. I can list them if you like and we can agree on which ones will be popular?
I've Got a set of 2-player paddles (originals), the Space Raiders keypad thingy and a pair of joysticks (unfortunately they're not originals, Quickshot 1's I think). Lemme know, I'm only 4 miles down the road from Kenilworth.

Cool - be good in the shoot em Zone methinks.

You got access to some TV's DS?

Also need to get more table - you have any contacts?

Cheers.

DonkeySpank - October 21, 2005 10:00 AM (GMT)
Okay I'll bring it along. I'll keep the carts to the Shmups/Schmup-style games only, with maybe a copy of Pacman and Ms.Pacman thrown in too! ;)

I've got a small colour 14" TV I can bring along too, but no others I'm afraid. And the only table I've got is the dining room table - seats 10 people but I won't get it in the car! ;) And I think Mrs.Spank would have something to say about it if I tried!

boyo - October 21, 2005 10:04 AM (GMT)
I am sure the local churches/community centres maybe able to help with tables.... will ask today. :D
