Don't know when this happened, they are a lot smaller but seem to taste exactly the same...

First appeared just over three months ago in a local newsagent here. I posted a message about it on the old RG forum and had several people demanding I mailed them Texan bars :)

koopa42 - October 19, 2005 04:22 PM (GMT)
sorry but what the hell is a texas bar  never heard of or seen one

realretro - October 19, 2005 04:25 PM (GMT)
What does it taste like?

planetmatt - October 19, 2005 04:26 PM (GMT)
Cybercandy can meet all confection needs. The peanut butter M&Ms are fantastic.

Crunchy - October 19, 2005 04:39 PM (GMT)
I don't think they taste the same at all. The chocolate is different. They're softer too. These things used to break your teeth if you kept 'em in the fridge. Mine was still chewable after being fridged for two days. Its just not on.
I hate what they've done with our chocolate bars. Curly Wurly's have got false chocolate on 'em and they're dead titchy now. You could use 'em as a ladder to clean your windows when I was a lad. And Wagon Wheels, bloody hell. Anyone on here work in a Wagon Wheel factory? How the hell do you manage to get a layer of chocolate only one atom thick on a bit of biscuit? :o

Slighty off topic but still food related

Remember Guys Ringos's have been back for a while as well

Can someone explain whats happeing with Nik Naks and Wheat Cruchies!

1stly they get rid of Nik Nak scampi and lemon, then bring it back, then ditch it again?!?! Rib and spicy and cream and cheesy WTF?

And Now they have got rid of Worcester Sauce Wheat Crunchies????

Does anyone have the answers??? apart from Smarties.. getting back on topic

And why did they stop making double deckers for a bit?? getting further back on topic

It has to be said my memory isn't what it could be but i got the general impression it tasted very similar to the original, also it's the first time i've seen them in the shops, maybe it was a regional thing?

Luckily i never liked Wagon Wheels to start with but i do miss Beef Burger flavoured crisps a lot, maybe Outer Spacers? And the original Beef Monster Munch as well... there are so many.

Crunchy - October 19, 2005 05:00 PM (GMT)
Still got Scampi & Lemon NikNaks up here. Still got Beef Monster Munch too. Weird.

PIPSTER - October 19, 2005 05:05 PM (GMT)
Not the same though, the old beef MMs were in a massive yellow bag and were a lot stronger than the current ones.

Yeah. The old MM were nicely massive and a whole lot tastier! :D

koopa42 - October 19, 2005 05:09 PM (GMT)
still get wheat crunchies all over, just bought a multi pack the other day

Patdfb - October 19, 2005 05:21 PM (GMT)
Yeah i know you can get Wheart Crunchies still! Just not Worcester Sauce flavour...

Scampi and Lemon Nik Naks... must look harder.. missus cant stand the smell love 'em i does

I think MM went downhill when they got rid of the different shapes and only had the paws, they seemed to get smaller and less interesting

Anyone Remember Roysters?

Yes they are, in multi packs you get 3 bacon, 3 tomato and 3 worcester sauce

PIPSTER - October 19, 2005 05:50 PM (GMT)
T-bone steak flavoured Roysters are sold in a shop near me, they are perhaps the best modern crisp for sale today.

Patdfb - October 19, 2005 06:56 PM (GMT)
The Multipack i just got had Cream and Cheese Wheat Crunchies.. no fircking Worcester Sauce!

And as for Roysters, damn i must be going round with me fricking eyes shut

Will ask the at the SPAR Next Door, literally :)

PIPSTER - October 19, 2005 07:03 PM (GMT)
It's the local Spar that sells them here.

Sureshot - October 20, 2005 12:23 AM (GMT)
They need to bring back PROPER Monster Munch. They were like a meal in a crisp packet!

RS200 - October 20, 2005 10:20 AM (GMT)
Scampi and Lemon Nik-Naks are still availible - they are just harder to find these days, i love them too :) .. i drive to a shop 16 miles away just to buy them !!! ..

Beef Monster Munch HAVE changed - it was to do with a flavour enhancer which is now banned in the EU ..

LMFAO about Wagon Wheels ... your soooo right there Crunchers .... Chocolate covered ? .. whell it's there if you look hard enough !

.. I think the BIGGEST travesty in the last 10 years was that Maynards bought out Lyons and now the famous liquorice flavour "Midget Gem" has been replaced by a con-artist imposter BLACKCURRENT flavour ! ... HOW DARE THEY !!!!! ... this has actually caused MORE than just a stir in the online sweet community ...

I buy quite a lot of "old" sweets - stuff like Highland Toffee and Wham! Bars .. but i noticed ... they have all changed .. Wham! Bars are now only a fraction of the size what they where :( ...

What i want to know though ..... is what happened to Sausage and Tomato "Nosebags" ..... i just cannot find them anymore .... sniff ... sniff ...

Crunchy - October 20, 2005 10:30 AM (GMT)
See, this is what life is like! All the best stuff gets taken away! I can't believe that the best midget gem, the only reason for actually buying them in the first place, has gone. :(
The same thing is happening with boxes of chocolates. The coffee cream, the absolute king of chocs, is slowly disappearing! :(
Yet we still see the despised ginger cream knocking about.
The world's going to hell in a handcart. Don't bother with Sky News for what's happening in the world. You only have to look at the chocolates! :o

Spot on crunchy. The original Texan bar was so tough that most of the chocolate would fall off on your shirt before you could bite a piece off.

IMO the Cabury's Spira choccy bar is a future retro classic. It's my current fave just like Texan and Cabana were before. Now the Spira bar is getting harder to find. I feel that in a few years' time, it will be nowt but a memory.

Sonic Quack - October 24, 2005 08:41 AM (GMT)
Still looking for that elusive Texan bar :(

If anyone knows any chain that sells it please say. I've been asking people for years if they remembered them and I was beginning to doubt my own sanity.

All that talk of giant Monster Munch must always be coupled with how small Curly Wurlys seem nowadays.

I saw Texan bars in a Martin's newsagents.

Sonic Quack - October 24, 2005 11:58 AM (GMT)
Damn, I'm not sure if we have one of those anymore. Time to head to Scoot...

Aha! There are a couple, although a fair few miles away. Something to bear in mind. Cheers.

For the size of them I was horrified to see them on sale at my local LONDIS for 42p!!!!! :o WHAT A RIP OFF!

Robbo.

DonkeySpank - October 25, 2005 03:54 PM (GMT)
WHAAAT?!?!! Can you get a photo of the "new" Texan bars to compare?!?!

I remember the advert - animated cowboy tied to a totem pole, about to get killed, eats a texan bar and pulls the pole uot of the ground and wanders off into the distance...

Haahaha the world was much nicer without the PC-brigade!

Mmmmmm!

cabana.

It took a week to get all the coconut bits out of your teeth.

How %*@Ģing small are topics?

Cronosoft - October 29, 2005 02:37 AM (GMT)
When I heard about the limited return of TEXAN bars, I nipped down to Booker's cash and carry and bought myself a box of them. Although they were as nice as I remember, they didn't seem to be as big. Maybe it's because I'm twenty-odd years older, i don't know?

On the subject of sweet related trauma... I was dismayed to find out that LION Sports Mixture had been bought out, and they've got rid of the licquorice flavoured gums. That was the SOLE reason for buying them!

Yep !, AFAIK It was Maynards who bought out Lion's and got rid of all Liquorice flavours in their sweets. They did the same with Midget Gems (as mentioned in this thread already) and really ... it is just NOT funny ! ... replacing Liquorice with Blackcurrent ? .. what planet are they on ??? .. Can imagine someone in marketing .. "oh - it looks the same colour - they won't notice the difference ... "

TRAVESTY is what it is ...

yeah too right :)

Maynards seemed to want to just change Sports mixture to bog standard wine gums.

Did they change the other flavours too? Like Pineapple to become lemon?

See the BRING BACK THE BLACK LIQUORICE SWEETS petition on another thread!

Maynard make the crappest Wine Gums anyway. They're one of the only makers that don't include a 'white' wine gum in their selection.

Finally found a shop selling Texans yesterday. :D

They are definitely not as hard as they used to be cos I didn't lose any teeth in the process. I'm not sure if they are a lot smaller than they used to be cos the last time I had one I was about 4 or 5 and they probably *appeared* to be much larger than they actually were. Used to be the same with Curly Wurly's... coulda sworn they were the same size as my school ruler (the 30cm ones). One thing that is certainly smaller tho are creme eggs cos they used to fit properly into an egg cup, but they dont anymore... <_<
