Title: While we're on the subject ...
Description: ... of choccy bars

Crunchy - October 25, 2005 09:45 PM (GMT)
Toblerone.

It has the daftest name. It has the daftest shape, a shape that can actually wound you in the mouth if you eat it wrong.
It comes in quite ridiculous sizes ranging from the titchiest little splot of chocolate to something the size of a shoulder-mounted Surface To Air Missile (especially at xmas).
Whereas other chocolate bars have been in vogue then plunged into the abyss of uncool and been ruthlessly discontinued, only to be resurrected years later at the behest of retro loonies like us, the Toblerone has quietly gone about it's business all this time. It has never changed. You can still even get the classic version in a cardboard triangular tube if you look hard enough.
It is so retro it was probably retro before we even had retro.
All in all, the Toblerone is a bit of a one.

I bought one today and it was exactly as I remembered it.
Kudos to the Toblerone. We are not worthy. :D

My mum always comes back from holiday laden with Toblerone. I like the taste, but the little candy pieces always get stuck in my teeth <_<

realretro - October 25, 2005 09:56 PM (GMT)
It isn't xmas in my house without as you say a giant Toblerone stick.
And Terry's chocolate orange.

Crunchy - October 25, 2005 10:00 PM (GMT)
From the Toblerone site, how it got it's shape ...

"On the many business trips which led Theodor Tobler to Paris, he often visited the show at the Folies Bergères. The dancers on stage at the famous cabaret provided Tobler with a vision in his search to surpass the conventional bar shape for chocolate. As the red-and-beige clad dance troupe formed a human pyramid at the close of their number, his mind's eye suddenly glimpsed a triangular chocolate shape."

He was checking out the naughty dancers and saw "a triangular chocolate shape"! :o

KUDOS! :D

I've never seen them in anything else. What other packaging can you get them in?

The one I bought the other day was flow wrapped, like a Mars Bar.

too right - i've seen Vultures at a carcus have more decorum than my ex. girlfriends family at Christmas in front of a box of Quality Street... surprised it never caused any fights ... green triangles and purple hazelnut caramels .. scrummy.

You get the same fight over the coffee cream in any box of chocolates at my house.
I am the man of the house. I get the coffee cream. That is the rule!

Shame nobody ever listens to me though. :(

Now this is shocking, but I only found out today about 'white' maltesers when someone bought me a pack, cant say i was that impressed tho' :( much prefer the original ones

Crunchy - October 28, 2005 03:31 PM (GMT)
White Maltesers.
I don't like people messing about with choccy bars. I know what I like and I like my Maltesers brown.
Its like them dark/light Mars Bars or whatever they are. And all the mutant Kit Kats that are knocking about. Abominations for the easily bored, that's what they are!
I am a chocolate bar Luddite.
I'm not happy with them Terry's Chocolate Orange bars either. Can you tap it? Can you then unwrap it?

I rest my case.

Patdfb - October 28, 2005 05:44 PM (GMT)
Always been a White Chocoholic.. dunno why that and caramac so the 'rogue bars are of mucho mucho importance for me

Queue Search for White Kit Kat Crunchy..... Not the actual Crunchy though, that would be bad

Hi people. Can anyone remember Cabana bars. They had coconut and cherry pieces wrapped up in chocolate. They were great

rossi46 - November 6, 2005 10:21 AM (GMT)
Cabanas were my late father's favourite: those and Fry's chocolate creams. I remember not liking Cabanas because of the horrendous cherry bits in them

OMG I'd totally forgotten about them until I just read your post and dammit now I'm sat here like a slavering mad fool craving a cabana !

They were like a bounty delux to me, oh and I had no issues with the cherries either :D

Now if only I could find a Bar Six, thos cadburys wafer thingys just don't do it for me.

Wibble Yib - November 11, 2005 09:51 AM (GMT)
:o
Me again, there was another bar at the same time called an "Amazin" bar.

It was choc full of raisins . Yummy!!

Can anyone remember that one?

donsybee - November 14, 2005 12:45 AM (GMT)
I LOVE Coffee Creams ... really miffed they have been taken out of BOTH Quality Streets and Roses.

Miffed they have got rid of peanuts in favor of rasins in revels (Sorry peanut allergy sufferers)

WHY oh WHY did they change Marthons to Snickers ... We all know what a marathon is a long run - takes you a long time to get throught the chocolate bar- OR -gives you the energy to do the very long run- but what the Heck is a SNICKER???

jennytablina - November 14, 2005 02:00 PM (GMT)
The Club and Trio type bars used to alwyas be in my lunchbox

Does anyone remember a short lived drink marketed by Zig and Zag, it was a drink with jelly in it and I used to think it was awesome. The supa smooth Ed the Duck shakes were awesomely awesome too
